Santiago
A curious mixture of skyscrapers, 19th century European architecture, and Spanish colonial adobe bungalows, Santiago's architecture reflects the fact that the city is really a universe composed of multiple worlds. The population is more than 5 million. The city's many parks, the food, and a more relaxed attitude toward time exercise a magnetic attraction on visitors, as do dancing and nightlife, which begin at 10 PM and go on most of the night. Interesting sites include Cerro San Cristóbal; the Central Market; Museo de Bellas Artes, and its magnificent paintings, sculptures, and drawings; Plaza de Armas in the heart of the city; and Museo Precolombino, which houses artifacts of Central and South America's indigenous peoples.
