Programs

 
 

Classes are held at 8 different levels in each session and consecutive courses can be booked. Students are assessed to levels by means of an interview on the first day of the course.

The maximum number of students per class is 16. Minimum age of enrollment is 16 years, no evidence of previous study necessary.

The first Monday of each course begins with the language assessment test and assignment to classes between 8.00 and 15:00. The first day of classes is held on Tuesday at 9.00 in the Auditorium Maximum at the University of Vienna. On the last Friday of classes students attend the certificate ceremony.

Courses I & II
are a total of 4 weeks, beginning the first week of July and August. Language study is held Monday - Friday, 3 hours per day, for a total of 57 lessons. Courses may be taken consecutively.
Afternoon lectures are free of charge and held by professors and lecturers of the University. Lectures are given on the following topics, but are subject to change:

* Austrian contemporary literature
* Austrian folk-music, symphonies, composers, songs
* The German language n Europe, The Viennese German
* Introduction to Austria: History and social structures, Politics and economy
* Seminars relating to the introduction lectures (discussion forum)

Rooms, videos, textbooks and newspapers are available for self-studies. Experienced teachers will give assistance and advice on analyzing and correcting individual mistakes.

Course III
is a total of 3 weeks, beginning the first week of September. Language study is held Monday - Friday, 3.5 hours per day, for a total of 56 lessons.
Afternoon lectures are free of charge and held by professors and lecturers of the University. Lectures are given on the following topics, but are subject to change:

* Austrian contemporary literature
* Austrian folk-music, symphonies, composers, songs
* The German language n Europe, The Viennese German
* Introduction to Austria: History and social structures, Politics and economy
* Seminars relating to the introduction lectures (discussion forum)

Rooms, videos, textbooks and newspapers are available for self-studies. Experienced teachers will give assistance and advice on analyzing and correcting individual mistakes.

Special Afternoon Courses -
 
The University also offers special courses in the afternoon at additional cost. Costs range from approximately 36 to 54 EUR. The following courses are available:

* Translation into German (from English, French, Italian and Spanish)
* Commercial correspondence

Lectures On Culture, Austria history and geography

Tutorial Rooms, text-book and newspapers are available for self-studies. Experience teachers will give assistance and advice on analysing and correcting individual mistakes.

Admissions & Academic Credit

 
 
University of Vienna welcomes students age 16 years and older regardless of educational background, occupation or nationality. No previous knowledge of German is required except where otherwise indicated.

Students desiring credit for their study at University of Vienna should contact their home school or request the NRCSA Credit Fact Sheet.

Generally, U.S. universities consider 15 hours of study to be equal to 1 semester credit.

Certificates & Exams

At the end of each Course, for a nominal charge, participants may take a written and oral examination, and upon request obtain a certificate if they have attended classes regularly for one session (2 absences allowed) and after having passed the final exam.

The certificate of level "advanced 3" or "proficiency" replaces the language entrance exam ("Sprachberechtigungsprüfung") of the University of Vienna and the Vienna University of Economics.
