Program Fundamentals
The language program is based on total immersion. Students speak German from the first lesson. Teachers are well-trained, native speakers of standard German.
To ensure maximum spoken communication, the classroom activities include intensive coaching in grammar, sentence structure, and vocabulary. Reading, listening, and writing form the basis for courses. To enable the school to tailor their teaching to each student's language level, an assessment test is given to each student before course commencement. The written assessment test takes approximately 60 minutes to complete and covers grammar, reading comprehension and writing skills.
Methodology Apart from authentic teaching materials prepared by the teachers, textbooks by the following publishers are used: Hueber, Verlag für Deutsch and Langenscheidt. The courses follow accepted curricula, from beginners to advanced. Modern teaching materials and equipment are used, such as cd and video recorders, together with a large collection of cds and video tapes for language teaching purposes, on topics including the arts, Austria, literature and business. Use of the multimedia library is a good way of adding to and reinforcing the skills acquired in class work.
