Visits and excursions vary and may include:
•
Paris: Visit the many famous monuments such as the Louvre museum, Notre-Dame, the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. Stroll around the historic quarter with the Marais, the Ile St. Louis and don't miss the Latin Quarter.
•
Fontainebleau: One of the three great palaces of France with a series of beautifully decorated apartments. It is set in a lovely forest near Paris, surrounded by splendid gardens. Napoleon signed his abdication here.
•
Versailles: The French call Versailles a "chateau," it is in every sense a palace. The park and gardens are superb. The famous Gallery of Mirrors is 17th century. There are luxurious State Apartments, the Orangery and the Grand Trianon (1787). Marie-Antoinette's favorite residence was Le Petit Trianon, dating from Louis XV's time.
•
Chartres: Notre-Dame cathedral is a fine example of architectural purity. The stained glass is of that pellucid blue so characteristic of Chartres. The St. Pierre church, the old split-timber houses and the banks of the Eure with its bridges are other discoveries that await you.
