NRCSA - Fukuoka

About the NRCSA Center

NRCSA Center Enjoy the comforts of a more conventional language center in our offices in Fukuoka, Northern Kyushu! NRCSA-Fukuoka offers students the opportunity to take Beginner to Advanced levels of Japanese in a class size no bigger than 5 five people. Our facilities include traditional Japanese and Western classrooms with DVD players, projectors, CDs, wireless access to Internet, a cozy kitchen area, and study areas to maximize your language learning. Our program encompasses 20 hours of Japanese language per week; 4 hours during the morning. As a supplement, our host families - who provide two meals per day- are an integral part of the learning experience. Please note that for the duration of classes and homestay students will only use the Japanese language. The center is located on the main stretch of Tenjin - the shopping area of Fukuoka. Conveniently, NRCSA-Fukuoka is near the main JR train station and bus depot of the city.

About Fukuoka

Fukuoka Kyushu’s big city, Fukuoka, derives its energy from youth. It is said to be one of of Japan’s youngest city and the hometown of the biggest J-Pop stars in the country. Tenjin, the city’s old part of town, is lined with shopping centers and holds the most restaurants and bars per population than any other Japanese city. Maybe one of the kami – or native Shinto gods - is looking after this city because not only is its climate spectacular but during the relentless Mongol strikes of the 1200s, a massive typhoon with kamikaze winds kicked the foreigners to the curb. During a commission to rename the city during modern times, officials decided to name it Hakata (or Tenjin) for that part of town’s tourist attraction. Unfortunately, samurai burst into the meeting and demanded it keep Fukuoka as it name. Fukuoka was the section of the town were most samurai lived.
