About Kanazawa
Kanazawa
Kanazawa the city of sweets! This metropolis features many wagashi (confections) and is relatively small (1/2 million inhabitants) in comparison to Japans other major cities. The sweet trade here is an outgrowth of the tea ceremony of feudal times and has survived modern times in various shapes -choseidan (bar-shaped), fuku-ume (bean-paste candies), fuku-toku (almost like sugar cubes), and himuru-manju (a summer favorite). Kanazawa is a locale with many candies and a full array of scenery for each of the four seasons. Which is not to say that it doesnt get its share of rainfall because it is on par with most Southeastern US states. Historical monuments such as the Ishiwaka Gate and Sanjikken Longhouse in this city date to the 18th century after several fires throughout previous centuries destroyed many older artefacts.
